This plein air painting was created in one session at Mission San Juan Capistrano, inspired by a mission painting created by Arthur Grover Rider in 1930. I located his vantage point at the mission, and set my easel up about 10 feet away, intending to capture in my painting the feelings of abundance and peace that I felt from the Rider. Acrylic was the perfect medium for portraying the bright colors of the light and the subtleties of the shadows.
